How the program works:
We host 4 or 5 families from Sunday, Nov. 13 at 5:00 p.m. to Sunday, Nov. 20th at 7:00 a.m. The families usually take the van from Our Savior’s to the day site at 5th and Lipan in the mornings, and are later picked up at 5:00 p.m. We provide food for breakfast, lunches, snacks, and a hot meal in the evening. The families have two evenings of classes.
Tuesday is for life skills. Wednesday is a parenting class. If we have a wide age gap, we will need some extra help with child care (if we have two or more babies). You get the picture. You can join the families for the evening meal, then have the joy of entertaining them.
- Evening hosts – open the doors at 5:00 p.m. and host from 5:00 - 8:15 p.m.
- Overnight hosts - 8:15 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Sleep overnight, have breakfast and lock doors
- Meal arrives at 5:30 p.m. and all eat at 6:00 p.m.
- Sunday the 13th cots and personal belongings arrive at 7:30 a.m. We unload, place them in a locked room. At 11:15 or 11:30 we start setting up the rooms, the kitchen, and Madsen Hall as a community room.
- Sunday the 20th at 7:30 a.m. we take everything down, load the truck, clean up the kitchen and volunteers pick up laundry.
- Most important responsibilities are to be flexible, enjoy the families, and be hospitable.
