Get to know our Music Director better... Our Music TraditionOur Savior’s Lutheran Church has had a distinguished tradition of excellent congregational singing and musicians since 1881. The present sanctuary was built in 1925 with fine acoustics to enhance music and singing.
There have been youth and children’s choirs at Our Savior’s, numerous soloist and instrumentalist of all kinds. Many new members have been attracted to the congregation through its emphasis on traditional Lutheran worship and classical music. Special musical events each year include: a Reformation Sunday afternoon concert; a Service of Lesson and Carols in December; a Lenten afternoon concert in March; and a Church Music Sunday service in May. During the summer, members and friends are invited to provide music each Sunday. We presently have an adult choir, Sunday School singing for children and a string ensemble. Plans are being made to acquire a grand piano and handbells. Contact Donald Zimmermann, Music Director, at 719-598-9362 or at the church office (303-831-7023) for more information. Choir Rehearsal is on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. (Although there are rare times for the choir not to practice on Thursdays during the regular choir season, please call the office if you plan to attend for the first time to verify that they're meeting that week).

In the 1940’s, Our Savior’s was one of the few churches to acquire and install a pipe organ. In 1955 a choir of over forty members and soloists recorded the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah. Reflecting the church’s ethnic origin, the Norwegian Lutheran a capella tradition is very much in evidence in the excellent choral library now housed in the 1961 choir room designed by noted modern architect Charles Haertling. The pipe organ received a major restoration in 1966 and a concert series was begun. In 2006, the church’s 125th anniversary, collaborations were done with other churches to perform Vivaldi’s Gloria, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah which was recorded again, this time on CD.
