The Our Savior's Family/Community
An important goal in building community is to be aware of and offer support to members and friends whenever there is illness, hospitalization, a death or other loss, or any circumstances where we might be helpful. And, of course, there are many celebratory moments of which we also wish to be made aware.
There is a problem, however. We don't seem to be clairvoyant, so we really do depend on all of you to share important information with us. It would be great if you would call Pr. Paul or the church office (303-831-7023), send an email to oslc915@juno.com or tell someone else who can relay the details. A visit can be arranged, or you can request that your concerns go to the Prayer Chain, or a note can be placed in the Messenger. We're waiting to hear from you!

OSLC Needs You! Back in August, OSLC members voted to begin a long-range planning process. This plan will provide the vision and guidance for our church, its ministries, and its facilities for the next 20 years. This plan will be completed by a core planning team with significant guidance and input from the congregation. We need volunteers from all backgrounds and with diverse skill sets to serve on the planning team and help guide the process. If you're interested in serving on the team, please contact Jordan Hoaglund by email or phone (952-250-4700).

FAIR TRADE COFFEE, TEA, COCOA AND CHOCOLATE (while it lasts)
FOR SALE HERE - part of the Lutheran World Relief Coffee Project
The LWR Coffee Project ensures that more of the money you spend on coffee reaches the farmers who actually grow it. Fair Trade coffee is a simple solution that means the difference—quite literally—between surviving and not surviving for small-scale coffee farmers.
What is the LWR Coffee Project?
Micah 6:8 calls us, as Christians, to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God. The LWR Coffee Project helps Lutherans answer that call by improving the lives of small-scale farmers around the world.
Why is Fair Trade important?
Proverbs 13:23 says, “A poor man's field may produce abundant food, but injustice sweeps it away.” Lutherans enjoy coffee as a regular part of their fellowship, unaware that the farmers who grew that coffee are probably struggling to make ends meet.
Is it okay to sell coffee at church?
I thought Jesus overturned the tables of the merchants in the temple.
In the Bible, the moneychangers outside the Temple were extorting the people who were coming to the Temple to worship. They were taking advantage of others’ plights and hindering their ability to worship God.
Today, we, Christians and non-Christians alike who live in the USA and other economically prosperous nations, are the moneychangers. Whether we know it or not, we are taking advantage of others in this world, hindering their ability to worship God because we hinder their ability to live. It calls into question who we actually worship: God or money?
We need to look into our cups when we drink and ask, “Are the few pennies I am saving by purchasing conventional coffee a faithful choice? Who is it helping? Who is it hurting?” And most importantly, “Who am I really worshipping?” Asking questions like these about coffee “filter” into other areas in our lives, raising awareness, and making us more wise and faithful consumers.

“Good Grief”
A new grief support group is forming, which will meet weekly in the MARCH (Senior) Center on the ground floor in the back of the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church building, on Wednesday afternoons at 1 p.m. If you are grieving about someone or something, please join us for comfort, help in coping, and hope. This is a support group, not a class. The group will determine what topics will be discussed, and whether speakers will be asked. To begin, discussion will center on the small book “Good Grief,” which offers spiritual thoughts for walking the path of healing. Gretchen Fortner will facilitate the group.
