June 2008
During the coming year, we will use this space each month to highlight components of our ministry and life together.
Pastor John I have returned from Iran, grateful for the opportunity to go and thankful for all of the prayers and support that I received during the trip. I am still processing so much of what we learned and experienced, I am happy to talk with you about the trip. When I have the photos back I will schedule several opportunities to view them. For now, let me share three strong impressions that I’ve taken away from the trip: A reminder that we have so much more in common with other people than what we think divides us. The scenes of Iranian parents with their children could just as easily be in Washington Park as Tehran. The faithful witness of the Christian community, especially the Armenian Orthodox Church, as it continues to celebrate and proclaim the gospel even in their “religious minority” status. And the way in which they are respected and acknowledged by the larger population. Finally, the absolute necessity of changing the political discourse in this country and between the countries. The fearful saber rattling, the harsh rhetoric, the demonization by both sides has to end. Economic and diplomatic engagement is absolutely necessary. We will continue to explore these ideas and share our experiences in the months ahead.
Pastor Tina New Year’s Message 2008 Thanks to all who have remembered me and Pete this Christmas season with your
cards, gifts (special thanks to all who contributed to the staff gifts), and the
marvelous help with the Christmas Eve Mexican Fiesta. And, on behalf of the
entire staff (in the South Tower and 2nd floor offices) Turnabout’s
Bobby, Solomon, Lynne, John, Demetrius, Annie, Kris, Ernie and also St. Luke’s
Roger, Pete and Joan, we thank you for being faithful people who have boldly
envisioned these missions, and encouraged and supported us in your midst. May each of you be blessed in the New Year!
